Accessible Training Design

In Marie Dubost's facilitation session, she asked participants to come up with suitable metaphors on ' Accessible Facilitation Session Design ' . Here's what her participants came up with .

(1)  Accessible Session Design is like a flipped solar system.

Instead of designing the standards for access to the most ABLE among us, create sessions that can be accessible to the widest group of people possible.

(2) Accessible facilitation design is like Vine. In the forest , the bigger and stronger trees enable the growth of the vine, smaller plants and saplings by giving them something to climb on to. To finally reach the sunlgiht.

(3) Accessible Facilition Design is like a dinner table !

Build it as wide and as long as possible so as to accommodate a variety of abilities and perspectives.

(4)  Accessbile session design is like - a Menu in the restaurant . By offering a Menu or a buffet with many choices, we cater to the largest group possible, and to their preferences.

Accessible Training / Facilitation session design tips for participants with limited mobility.

Mobility challenge is not about being in wheel chairs. Some people have difficulty in moving all limbs or limited mobility in other limbs.

Hence,  plan a variety of activities that accomodate a limited movement.

Accessible Facilitation Program Design tool : CAPTIONS .

Captions in English are very popular even among participants with no hearing impairments or challenges !

A Study found that, 66% of students with English as a second language found captions very helpful.

For the Voice Over that is in English.

StageText, a UK charity that provides captioning for broadcast and for live events found that, 80% of students aged 18-24 enable captions while watching TV !

64% of users  between 25 and 35 do the same !
